Lost Noel Coward play set for reading
TACT (The Actors Company Theatre) will present a one-night reading of Noel Coward’s Salute to the Brave as a fundraiser on Nov. 13. The all-star cast for the reading includes Tony and Drama Desk winner Reed Birney, Drama Desk winner Lorenzo Pisoni, and Jennifer Ehle, Kristine Nielsen, Peter Bartlett, Cynthia Harris, Simon Jones and Rocco Sisto. The presentation is the world premiere of the play, lost since 1941. Although it was written by Coward on behalf of the British government to encourage the United States to enter World War II, Salute to the Brave was shelved after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, as it was considered unnecessary. Set in Connecticut, Coward’s playwarns of the dangers of complacency and isolationism. TACT artistic director Scott Alan Evans will direct. The performance will be at the Scholastic Theatre (557 Broadway, between Prince and Spring streets) at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13. To purchase tickets, call (212) 645-8228 or visit tactnyc.org. —Edward Karam
