Other
new reviews include:
Belize,
set in Central America and London in the 18th century, is
a love story shaped by history and politics. Based on the
true story of Edward Despard, an Irish-born Colonel in the
British Army and Catherine Despard, an African-American
woman who became his wife.
Communion,
set in a fashionable Dublin suburb, is about two brothers,
one family and the many faiths that make up modern life.
Innocents,
inspired by Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth, is
a timely tale of glamour, jealousy, ambition and betrayal
set against a background of wealth and social hypocrisy
in turn of the century New York.
Saturday
Night Rewritten, a weekly
sketch comedy show that is insprired by the previous night's
episode of Saturday Night Live. Written, rehearsed and performed
in about 8 hours time.
SpeakEasy,
a unique and ever-changing production from the Polybe+Seats
production company. A night of theater, fashion, music,
and drinks.
The
Great American Desert,
first performed in 1961 as the official opener of
The Judson's Poets' Theatre, is a multi-dimensional play
that interrogates the truth behind the romantic mythology
of the American West through frequent interruptions of dance,
music and commercials read by a chorus of Old West Heroes
including Wild Bill Hickock, Wyatt Earp, Billy The Kid,
and Doc Holliday.
Woyzeck:
A Fever Dream,
the story of a soldier who descends into chaos and confusion,
killing his wife and then himself. Considered the first
modern play, Woyzeck was written in 1834 by a 24-year-old
Georg Buchner. Working on the fourth draft of the play when
he died, many scholars are divided over which scenes Buchner
meant to stay in the script and what the order should be.
Happy
Theatergoing!
