What does
being in The Fantasticks mean to you at this point in
your career?
Being in The Fantasticks means a lot to
me because it's my first acting job in NYC, my first musical
in a long time, and my first exposure to the show. I feel
very lucky to bring this story to life night after night,
especially with Tom [Jones, who wrote the book and lyrics,
and also acts] in the show.
What are your
career goals?
Right now, I want to keep playing great
characters in great material, all the while collaborating
with talented people.
|
|
How did you land this role?
I had just finished moving into the city and
started auditioning and went through the callback experience
and lucked out and got the offer.
Who or what
are your influences?
As a kid I was influenced a lot by old black
and white movies and movie musicals like Twelve Angry Men
or Singin’ in the Rain. I was drawn to performers
who did it all, like Sammy Davis Jr. That's all stayed with
me, but now artistically I'm most responsive to the great
classic writers like Shakespeare, Chekhov, O'Neill, Shaw.
... They were able to tap into the human experience with
their work in ways that continues to resonate. |
Why
do you think The Fantasticks is so popular and the longest-running
show ever?
The Fantasticks is about something everyone has to do:
grow up. And everything good, bad, and ugly associated with
it. Whether it’s little kids who are about to, or
audience members going through it, or older people who can
reflect on it. There's something in it for everyone. Not
to mention the gorgeous melodies and aptly crafted lyrics.
