SYNOPSIS: Theatre Arts Japan was founded with a mission to introduce Japanese Modern plays to United States. This “Tokyo Nostalgia” is an adaptation of “Two men toying with their lives” and other plays written by Japanese playwright, Kunio Kishida.
The piece is omnibus ‘stories of rebirth’. It is a story of the people, who are hurt and tired, find hope and start the first step of new lives, not by themselves but, with help of the others. These stories do not have Hollywood endings, but shines warm and narrow ray of light of hope. The ending of the stories give us realistic and positive message. These original plays were written in Taisyo era, but, the theme is beyond the era and talks to us all who live in this society. Also, it proves, beyond culture and way of living, we all have something in common as far as how we feel and experience. This production is not for alienation of American Audience, but for presenting connection as human being despite the difference of heritage or culture.
